CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: BRIAN SMITH

Many of you know Brian Smith, one of our Dryathlon winning all-stars. During our January contest, Brian lost 15lbs in 27 days. But how is he doing now? Did some of the healthy lifestyle changes really stick with him? HELL YA THEY DID!
January 2 – 262lbs
March 1 – 237.2lbs AND COUNTING!

We asked Brian a few questions about his recent experience and are excited to share below:

Q: How long have you been working out at Lion’s Den Fitness?
A: Since opening day! (about 2-3 years now I think).

Q: Do you do Group Fitness Classes or Personal Training Sessions. If both, what is your favorite aspect of each?
A: I do both group and personal training sessions. Fave
thing about group training – you don’t have to think – just show up – I enjoy morning classes because it let’s me enjoy the rest of the day and feel good about already having a work out done. Also – the only person to blame if I don’t make it is me. I can’t get stuck at work/etc. Fave about personal training – one on one attention – you have a little more ability to push yourself more. Ben is great as well.

Q: Why did you decide to do the Dryathlon Challenge?
A: I needed to take some time to reset and focus on being healthier after the excess of football season and the holidays. I also am in the middle of a busy time at work – so it helped concentrate, work harder and get more done.

Q: How many years have you done the Dryathlon Challenge?
A: Every year at Lion’s Den and this is approximately year 7 of dry January for me.

Q: What was your gameplan going into the 27 day challenge?
A: I usually start “officially” on the 2nd. I’m afraid if I wait until the official event starts – I’ll be able to easily find an excuse to not stop later. I have some great books and tv lined up as well. Keep yourself busy! I also cook and try out new healthy recipes.

Q: Was not drinking difficult? If so, what was the most difficult aspect? If not, why not, in your opinion?
A: I miss the social interaction more than anything – but once you get through the first weekend, it’s all good.

Q: How did you feel throughout the 27 day challenge?
A: So much different – you wake up easier, sleep better, your mind is sharper, you have more $, its great.

Q: What is your favorite food and beer?
A: Coors light and nachos

Q: How much weight did you lose during the challenge?
A: 15 lbs

Q: How often did you workout during the challenge?
A: 5 days +

Q: If you could give any advice to someone looking to make a positive change in their lives, what would it be?
A: Set a date to start and stick to it – have whatever you need to be successful (IE- meal prep for work so you don’t end up at work w/o anything to eat. If you have a busy job – make yourself prepare on weekends so you don’t have to cook when you get home – m-f after a long day. Reward yourself along the way – a healthy (ish) loaded baked potato is my favorite meal during January.
